I had a great time putting together this lesson about one of my favorite guitarists - the original Telecaster cat, Jimmy Bryant.

Check it out at Premier Guitar, complete with notated licks and sound samples:

20 Creative Songwriting and Composing Prompts Courtesy of 'Every Song Ever'

Here's my newest article I wrote for Flypaper that comes from a lesson I've done with a few of my students that's based on Ben Ratliff's book, "Every Song Ever." As I mention in the article, that's probably the best book I read in the last year and I think there's a lot of wisdom in there.
Let me know if this helps you write some music!

An Introduction to the Wide World of Alternate 12-string Tunings now on Soundfly

About 5 years ago, I was obsessed with finding new tunings for my 12-string Stratocaster, leading to my albums Black Figure of a Bird and In White Sky.

Today, Soundfly published my article on getting started finding tunings on 12-string for yourself. Check it out here, complete with audio samples:

The Compass: Philadelphia, PA

I wrote this article about Philadelphia for Soundfly's COMPASS series. Much hype about lots of things I like in Philly, including Ars Nova Workshop, The Rotunda, John Coltrane House, DiPinto Guitars, The First Unitarian Church (R5 Productions), Spruce Street Harbor Park, Fire Museum Presents, and a shout out to Dan Blacksberg's Yiddish Dance Party, and more.

Interview with Sun Ra Arkestra's DM Hotep

I set down with Sun Ra Arkestra guitarist DM Hotep to chat about his experience in the group for the Ars Nova Workshop website.

The Arkestra are one of my favorite live bands and I'm going to see them tonight for their annual Halloween show. I have no doubt they'll take us all to Saturn.

Check it out here:

Is There Such a Thing as a “Single Instrument Virtue”?

I was invited to write an editorial on "single instrument virtue" for the Flypaper blog, part of the music education site, Soundfly.

Here are my thoughts on the guitar, the drums, and how it all fits together:
