BugOut Footage

Last weekend, I put together BugOut, a band to play some compositional ideas I had about free jazz blasting. Philadelphia video-archivist master Kinan Faham (The Silent Camera) took this awesome video, with great quality audio. This show was a serious party.

The band featured:

Mid-summer update

It's been a busy summer and I've got lots of exciting stuff going on. Since my last post, I've been on tour around the Midwest with Many Arms, had the new Haitian Rail record released, and played the first shows with Form and Mess.

New releases and upcoming tours!

I'm spending the winter getting ready for a bunch of excitement in the spring. I have four new recordings coming out and have a few upcoming tours.

New releases:

April: Suspended Definition, Many Arms. Featuring guest saxophonist Colin Fisher. CD on Tzadik.

April: Numbers on the Side - new solo recording, recorded in the sanctuary at The Rotunda in Philadelphia. Full length recording, split CD w/Oni Baba. Ivory Antler Records.

June: Solarists. New recording by the newly re-named Haitian Rail (formerly Ricart/Millevoi Quartet) featuring Edward Ricart, Dan Blacksberg, Kevin Shea, and myself. CD on New Atlantis.

TBA/Spring: the Form & Mess album. Form & Mess is a new band led by George Draguns, with Kevin Shea and myself. George and Kevin where the original bassist and drummer of Storm & Stress, who I am a HUGE fan of. LP on Sick Room Records.

Upcoming dates:

Many Arms will be performing at John Zorn's Masada Book Three Premier concert at Town Hall in New York!

Archer Spade will be doing a few shows in early April with visual artist Erik Ruin. He'll be doing live projections.

In late April, I'll be touring for 11 days with Eric Carbonara around the Midwest. April 15-26.

Many Arms will be touring throughout the Northeast and Midwest in June.

Today I found this full set video from a show I played in September in an old abandoned warehouse in Pardubice, Czech Republic. This was one of my favorite sets from my fall European tour and I thought it went unrecorded. I'm very glad to find that there is a document!

Haitian Rail Release Shows and Press

Last weekend, I played four record release shows for Haitian Rail with Ed Ricart, Dan Blacksberg, and Kevin Shea. The shows were a lot of fun and the music really developed into something different each night.

I've (almost) got the news

I've been busy getting some things lined up for the next couple of months. Some exciting new project ideas, and some new releases coming up. Pretty soon I hope to have all the info for the Ricart/Millevoi Quartet album that will be coming out soon and a release date for my new solo tape on Flenser Records. 

The other night, Ricardo Lagomasino and I played our first show as a duo in a basement in S Philly. Here's proof:

Guitar Solo

I played a show at the Highwire Gallery here in Philly the other night and I took this guitar solo. I'd recommend cranking up your volume if possible as it was quite loud at the time:

Many Arms - "Beyond Territories"

On August 3, Many Arms played a show at Johnny Brenda's where we debuted the new music we've been working on this summer. We've been laying low getting this stuff together and we're planning on recording our new album at the end of the month.

This is one of the three new pieces I premiered at the Highwire Gallery on August 20th, tentatively titled "Into Endlessly Unfolding Hallways."



Not the Wind, Not the Flag were in town from Toronto and played one of my favorite sets (of quite a few) that I've seen them play. Their set consisted of three pieces, an all-percussion groove piece first; the second, an edgy and disjunct sax/drum piece next, and this is the final guitar/drum blowout spirit-vamp jammer.



The opening set was from Traits, who delivered some really beautiful and lush textures, after which they played the nerdiest version of "The Immigrant Song" that I'm aware of.

Many Arms at the New Atlantis Festival in Washington DC

Omar Souleyman

On November 3, Electric Simcha is going to be opening for Omar Souleyman. We're all incredibly stoked about this. Julius and I both went to see Omar and co. perform in Central Park at Summer Stage this June and it was nothing short of an amazing and huge dance party.

The Breathing Gym with Nicole and Dan

The other night I played a show with Q-1, an improv group I'm a part of with my friends Bonnie Lander, Dan Blacksberg, Julius Masri, and now Nicole Bindler. This show was a lot of fun, and during one part, Dan played trombone while walking around the space with Nicole on his back (Julius was playing chairs at the time and Bonnie and I were sitting on "stage" watching quietly).

Unfortunately, there is only an audio recording of this. However, I remembered I posted these videos of Nicole and Dan's last duo show together from the spring. I followed them around Pageant-Soloveev while all of this took place. I think that these videos are totally entertaining.
